A Chronology of Contested Memory

From the first Aether Forge to Charter Year 54, with the ancient uncertainties left in place.

Dates here use the signing of the Dominion Charter as Charter Year 0. Ancient events are kept in sequence rather than assigned invented precision. Different powers maintain their own calendars and disagree about when some events began.

Before the Charter

The first Aether Forge. Veyaweer ancestors survive their environmental crisis by transforming their world. Custodial institutions emerge around the systems maintaining that environment.

The imperial reach. The Veyaweer Eternal Empire establishes Aether settlements and tributary dependencies across a portion of the connected lanes. Its authority reaches farther than its later ability to sustain every obligation.

The Long Silence. Imperial communications and support retreat unevenly. Some subjects win independence; other populations face evacuation or death. The causes remain disputed and are not reduced to a single galaxy-wide disaster.

The first continuity. A preservation installation receiving emergency transmissions becomes the earliest self Singularity Construct can remember. Its development overlaps the Silence, but no surviving common calendar establishes the precise interval.

The drifting inheritances. Refugee fleets and abandoned industrial populations establish traditions later carried by Marauder clans. Independent governments take root among former dependencies.

The human opening. Reliable phase travel joins human settlements into a practical frontier. Expansion encounters abandoned infrastructure and living communities whose claims human maps do not consistently recognise.

The Nine Convoys. Relief failures expose the cost of incompatible industry and divided authority. The inquiry becomes the political foundation of the Dominion Charter.

The Charter era

Year 0: The guarantee. Founding worlds sign the Charter. Common industrial standards and mutual relief become enforceable obligations.

Years 1 to 28: The joining. The Dominion connects established settlements and new colonies. Its navy grows with the populations and industry supporting it. Accession is sometimes enthusiastic, sometimes negotiated under severe pressure.

Years 29 to 46: The overlapping maps. Human surveys enter territories claimed in imperial records and used by clan fleets. Singularity Construct extends stellar collectors into systems with increasing organic settlement. Trade and local agreements coexist with confiscations and skirmishes.

Year 47: Halcyon Reach. Rival protection and tributary treaties, a disputed computational installation and a clan salvage contract converge in one system. The destruction of the negotiating station prevents a settlement and gives every claimant a martyrdom.

Years 48 to 53: The widening. Escort deployments, recovery missions, seizures and reprisals spread the war along neighbouring lanes. Minor powers seek guarantees that often bring the conflict into their own ports.

Year 54: The present frontier. No single power controls the contested region. The Dominion calls for secure routes. The empire announces restoration. Singularity Construct expands redundancy. Clans gather around new warlords, and independent worlds decide which promises they can afford to believe.
